Patty Gray Workshops In March 2011 and May 2012 we were lucky to host 3 day workshops by internationally renowned glass artist Patty Gray from the US.Patty was brought to Australia by Axess Glass Products and conducted her 3 day workshops in Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, Sydney and Adelaide. The 12 participants in each of Patty's workshops were treated to 3 very full days of new techniques and materials for kiln fired glass.Much of the glass and materials used in the workshops was generously sponsored by Spectrum Glass, Uroboros Glass, CBS Dichroic, Hang Your Glass and Glassline, for which we are very grateful. The participants were introduced to metal inclusions such as copper sheet, copper foil, copper mesh to enhance their projects. Gold and silver leaf was also introduced. Some experimented with painting with frits, powders and stringers.Patty also demonstrated painting with and manipulating mica powders using wipeout tools.Patty's kiln stacking was something to behold as you can see in the photos. Incredibly, each participant was able to produce 5 or more projects over the 3 days.

In March 2011 and May 2012 we were lucky to host 3 day workshops by internationally renowned glass artist Patty Gray from the US.
We were introduced to fused mosaics using sheet glass and powders.A new product called Flexi-Glass was demonstrated. This product allows artists to create sheets of frit or mica powders to create unique effects. We now have Flexi-Glass in stock.A vitrograph was used make custom glass spirals and stringers for fusing on to projects. Each participant was able to "rake" molten glass in the Firebox.Students were shown how to dam thicker projects during firing with morganite board and fibre paper.Coldworking techniques were demonstrated to smooth and polish the kiln fired projects. Each person was able to use our 14 inch lap wheel to produce expertly finished bowls. The glass saw was also demostrated to cut up pattern bars to be rearranged for fusing into other projects.Patty proved to be not only a wealth of information but also very personable and responsive to her students. Her organisation was great and there wasn't a dull moment in 3 days.We hope to host Patty again in 2013, but get in early because this class will fill as soon as a date is confirmed. You can check out some of Patty's work and her teaching schedule on her website at http://www.pattygray.com/
